Canucks gets some bad injury news on Hughes and Roussel

The Vancouver Canucks confirmed last night that forward Antoine Roussel will miss the rest of the 2018-19 season after suffering a knee injury in an awkward collision with New York Rangers forward Brendan Lemieux.

For some reason Lemieux was assessed a major penalty and a game misconduct on the play, likely as a result of Roussel’s injury.

It’s another blow to a Canucks team that has been ravaged by injury this season. The 29 year old Roussel has been an excellent pick up for the Canucks this season, potting nine goals and 31 points in 65 games while leading the entire NHL in penalty minutes with 118.

Canucks fans also got some bad news about top prospect Quinn Hughes. Hughes, of course, signed with the Canucks earlier this week after his season concluded with Michigan in the NCAA but Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal is now reporting that Hughes won’t make his debut for at least another week due to a foot injury.

Hughes bruised his foot blocking a shot in his final game with Michigan. It’s expected that he’ll make a full recovery in time to make his NHL debut before the Canucks’ season ends in early April.
