The Vancouver Canucks have lost a big part of their blue line for at least the remainder of the evening.

Canucks veteran defenseman Alexander Edler was mysteriously absent from the Canucks bench to start the third period of Vancouver's Saturday night match up against the Edmonton Oilers and now the Canucks themselves have confirmed that the 33 year old blue liner has been sidelined due to injury. We are not quite sure how exactly Edler got banged up during this one, but the Canucks have revealed that Edler is currently dealing with what they described as an upper-body injury.

Edler is having himself a fairly solid season with 4 goals and 11 assists for a total of 15 points on the blue line this season in his 26 games played. Losing him for an extended period of time would obviously be a tremendous loss so hopefully this will only be a short term type of injury.
