Manny Malhotra is back where he belongs: on the bench and on the ice with the Vancouver Canucks. Officially named an assistant coach to head coach Travis Green this offseason, Malhotra will begin his first season behind an NHL bench in 2017-18, after joining the team as a development coach last season. His new role will take him behind the bench and into the dressing room with the Canucks and this weekend’s Summer Showdown provided the perfect opportunity for him to get a little practice in.

The Canucks decided to mic up the 37 year-old rookie coach as he took over the reigns for Team White in their game against Team Blue on Friday night.

How awesome is that? Seeing the way that he relates to young guys like Brock Boeser and Elias Petterson, it’s clear that Manny is going to be a great player’s coach for many years to come. Better yet, not only is he relatable, but the veteran of 991 NHL games has the experience and the knowledge to really help the team’s young players develop into professionals. Great work, Manny! Keep it up, coach!
