The Vancouver Canucks put an end to their ugly losing streak on Saturday with a big, late game, win over a Los Angeles Kings team that has admittedly also been struggling. Unfortunately for one Canuck though that celebration will be cut short as it appears he may be headed back to the American Hockey League.

According to a report from Sportsnet National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman the Canucls have placed 28 year old winger Darren Archibald on waivers following the win in L.A. The fact that this move comes less than 24 hours after the Canucks activated 32 year old veteran defenseman Alex Edler off waivers would indicate that Archibald is being waived in order to make room for Edler's return to the line up. For Archibald it marks the end of another relatively underwhelming stint at the NHL level.

The career journeyman has struggle to maintain a spot on an NHL roster for any significant length of time and his latest performance is not likely to change that soon. Archibald has appeared in 9 games for the Canucks so far this season recording 1 goal and 1 assist for 2 points which is pretty solid when you consider he has averaged less than 7 minutes of ice time. That being said the other aspects of his game, notably the 12 minutes of penalties he accrued over that same stretch, may outweigh the positives of his performance on the ice. That being said Archibald has been a very strong performer for the Utica Comets at the AHL level this season, recording 4 goals and 2 assists for 6 points in 8 total games on his way to a plus minus rating of +3 with the Comets.

Edler on the other hand has only appeared in total of 11 games for the Canucks this season despite being a regular member of the roster. His absence has been due to a sprained MCL suffered all the way back in October but the good news for the Canucks is that he has recovered rather quickly and appears to be set to get back into action. Whenever Elder does play it would mark his first game with the Canucks since the 24th of October and the Canucks will be hoping Edler will be able to maintain the offensive output he showed early in the season. In his 11 games Elder had no goals and 5 assists.
