Canucks send top prospect back down once again.

It appears clear at this point that the Vancouver Canucks are very much disappointed.

After making their former first round draft pick Jake Virtanen a healthy scratch for several consecutive games, the team has reportedly made the decision to demote him once again. A report from TSN insider Frank Seravalli indicates that Virtanen has once again been assigned to the American Hockey League's Utica Comets.

One has to wonder if playing Virtanen for 10 games already this season was a mistake, as it now seems abundantly clear that Virtanen either can't or won't deliver the kind of play head coach Willie Desjardins expects from him. It's unclear how long he will be down in Utica, but with a year already burnt off his entry-level contract it's a safe bet that he will be called up again at least as some point this season.

Nonetheless it's far less than one would expect for a 6th overall pick in the draft.
