Canucks sign promising young forward to new contract.

The Vancouver Canucks have announced a deal that will likely garner a great deal of approval from the fan base.

The team made the following official announcement via their website:

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has signed forward Sven Baertschi to a two-year contract extension. The contract will carry a value of $1,700,000 in the first year and a value of $2,000,000 in the second year for an annual average value of $1,850,000.

The talented young forward got his first serious taste of NHL action last season appearing in just under 70 games for the Canucks and recording 15 goals and 13 assists over that stretch. Clearly at 23 years old the Canucks feel he still has room to develop into an even better player, and they've secured him at minimal cost for two more seasons.
