There was another NHL hockey game last night apart from the Winter Classic.

The Vancouver Canucks hosted the Anaheim Ducks. Despite struggling this season, the latter were on a 3 game winning streak. Chris Tanev scored for the Canucks in the third period after former Canuck, Ryan Kessler opened the scoring in the second frame.

Tanev's goal came after forward Alexander Burrows worked hard to get him the puck and work even harder to get to the from of the net and provide a screen in front of Ducks' goaltender Frederik Andersen.

"He beat two guys and then got the puck up to me," Tanev said. "I was just trying to get it by the first guy and then he went to the net and ended up screening the goalie too."

Both teams were tied at 1 goal each after 65 minutes of play, so shootouts were required.

Burrows scored the game winning goal, after getting different scouting report from his teammates on Andersen's tendencies. Radio Vrbata told the montreal-native to go high glove, and Janik Hansen please Burrows to go with his backhand signature move.

"It's been a while, so it's always nice to contribute a little," said Burrows, who was on the fourth line after failing to record a point since his last goal on Nov. 21. "It's just nice to contribute and help the team win. We're in a battle for the playoffs, we have to find ways to be better. So I didn't know what to do but I came in and saw a spot,I think he was trying to take the five-hole away with his right knee so that gives a little opening blocker side."

Backup goaltender Jakob Markstrom was solid in front of Vancouver's net last night with 27 saves.

The Canucks are now tied in second place of the Pacific division with the Arizona Coyotes at 39 points.
