Capitals first round matchup preview!
Keystone press agency

The President’s Trophy winning Washington Capitals take on the upstart Toronto Maple Leafs in what very well could be the most exciting matchup in the first round of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Game one of the series gets underway on Thursday, April 13th at 7pm ET from Washington D.C.’s Verizon Center. Game two goes Saturday, April 15th at 7pm ET before the series switches venue’s to Toronto’s Air Canada Centre for games three and four on Monday, April 17th and Wednesday, April 19th, both 7pm start times. Should the series go further, games five, six and seven are scheduled for Friday, April 21st, Sunday, April 23rd and Tuesday, April 25th.

In three games against the Leafs this season, the Capitals have gone 2-1 with their big guns leading the way. Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom and Marcus Johansson each chipped in with 3 points in the 3 contests, while Justin Williams and Evgeny Kuznetsov excelled with 4 points apiece.

The Capitals are the odds-on-favorite to not only win the series versus the Leafs, but to also make a lengthy playoff run. The team has never looked more dangerous from top to bottom and is playing like a team that’s focused on one thing: winning the Stanley Cup. In order to get to the ultimate prize however, they’ll have to dispatch the Leafs before marching on. Piece of cake, right? The Caps have never choked before…
