It was supposed to be their big moment, but the Washington Capitals had different plans.

On Thrusday night the Columbus Blue Jackets were playing for a piece of National Hockey League history when they attempted to win their 17th consecutive game, something only achieved once before by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Instead of joining the Penguins in NHL history and setting up a chance to break the record on Saturday, the Jackets appeared to collapse under the weight of the moment leaving themselves and their head coach John Tortorella thoroughly embarrassed.

It was the worst performance since the season opener for goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky who allowed five goals on the night, and his team didn't do any better producing none on the offensive side of the ice leading to a 5-0 loss.
