According to a report from NHL insider Bob McKenzie of TSN, Washington Capitals prospect Chase Priskie has informed the team that he will NOT be signing a contract before the NHL’s deadline this offseason. Instead he will hit the market as an unrestricted free agent on August 15th.

The 23 year old, right-shooting defenseman, has piqued interest around the league after an impressive senior campaign with Quinnipiac of the NCAA, putting up 17 goals and 39 points in 36 games. The former 6th round pick (177th overall) of the Capitals in 2016 NHL Entry Draft was improved his game steadily over the past 12 months, to the point where McKenzie himself believes that he’ll be “highly sought after” on the free agent market.
