Caps’ Backstrom reaches  historic milestone

Washington Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom recorded his 600th NHL assist in his team’s victory over the Vancouver Canucks. Fittingly, the assist was on an Alex Ovechkin power play blast… a play that everyone has no become accustom to seeing over Backstrom’s 11 year NHL career.

Backstrom is the first player selected from the 2006 NHL Entry Draft to hit the 600 assists milestone, topping second place’s Claude Giroux by over 100 assists. Backstrom now ranks 87th all time in NHL history for assists.

With an assist on Alex Ovechkin's second power play goal of the game, Nicklas Backstrom has recorded his 600th career assist, becoming the first from his draft class to reach the mark and 87th all time.

In 823 career NHL games, the 30 year old Swedish centre has 211 goals and 812 assists.
