Caps’ Holtby plays private concert for teammates in Vancouver area pub

Being a Vezina winning goalie isn't enough... he's got to be a rock star too!?

As if being a Vezina Trophy winning goaltender and Stanley Cup champion weren’t enough for Washington Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby, the 29 year old goaltender is evidently an aspiring rock star.

Following the Capitals’ 5-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Monday, the team took a trip up the Sea to Sky Highway just outside of Vancouver and made a stop off at skiing and snowboarding resort Whistler, BC. While there Holtby played a small, intimate concert for his teammates and some pub patrons.

Check it out:

Braden Holtby played a set in Whistler at The Dubh Linn Gate last night while Ovechkin & his teammates cheered him on...

How cool is that!? Pay close attention to a proud Alex Ovechkin wearing the local garb (a lumberjack’s plaid sweater) and taking a vertical video of the entire bar.

Holtby is an avid guitarist, singer and songwriter and even uses the medium to help him calm his nerves on game days. Check out this account of Holtby’s love for music courtesy of a 2016 Sports Illustrated article from Alex Prewitt:

The guitar lives inside a small office at the Washington Capitals’ practice facility, removed from its leathery case only for the game-day jam sessions. Showtime typically comes around noon, squeezed into the window after the morning skate and team meeting, once the artist finishes getting rubbed down by the team masseuse. The setlist trends heavy on Indie and modern rock, particularly Jack Johnson, but requests are taken too. The crowd comes and goes, mostly other players visiting manager of team operations Rob Tillotson, who works behind his desk while songs flow from the chair near the door. But every so often, someone will stop and listen to the acoustic stylings of goaltender-turned-jukebox Braden Holtby.

How cool is that?
