There is no way John Tavares was going to miss the third period of the seventh and do or die game of the series against the Boston Bruins.

However, some people, including the insiders of the Sportsnet panel during the second intermission, thought the Toronto Maple Leafs star centre could be missing at the start of the third.

Tavares was back and ready to fight and rewrite history for the Leafs, however, we aren't quite sure in what shape he was. At the end of the second period, a scuffle took place near the benches and Bruins captain Zdeno Chara decided to take matters into his own hands.

And there are huge.

Chara was caught on tape sucker punching Tavares as tempers flaired between the two teams. The punch caught Tavares off guard on the side of the head.

Not a great move by Chara, however, lucky for him and the Bruins he was not penalized at the end of the period. Patrice Bergeron helped Tavares to get back to his feet after the incident, and the Leafs star player looked shaken up.

Maybe it explains the start of the third period...

The Bruins came back strong and took a two-goal lead moments after the puck was dropped on the ice for the third period...
