Claude Julien announces a date for Shea Weber's return to the line up!

The Montreal Canadiens have largely outperformed the rather low expectations that their fan base had for them after a disastrous campaign in the 2017 - 2018 National Hockey League regular season and they've done so without arguably their best skater on the ice.

Habs star defenseman Shea Weber has been out of action entirely since the month of September when what was supposed to be an arthroscopy on his knee turned into something much more serious. Doctors who were performing the relatively minor procedure discovered a meniscal tear in his knee and Weber, who once thought that he would be ready for the start of the 2018 - 2019 NHL regular season learned that he would be missing somewhere in the range of 5 to 6 months recovering from a much more severe injury.

This has led to an extreme degree of frustration among a Canadiens fan base that already had some very serious reservations about the trade that initially brought Weber to Montreal, a trade involving former Canadiens superstar P.K. Subban. Weber was the older player in the deal by a considerable margin and in spite of his reputation as a hard nosed blue liner and locker room leader his injuries have really limited the impact he has been able to have on the Canadiens. Weber has now appeared in fewer games for the Canadiens than Subban has points as a member of the Nashville Predators and you don't need me to explain why that has made fans in Montreal eager to see a healthy Weber back out on the ice and playing for their team.

Thankfully for those frustrated fans they were treated to some very good news on Saturday courtesy of Montreal Canadiens head coach Claude Julien. According to a report from Canadiens beat reporter John Lu the Habs head coach has informed him that Weber is set to make his return to the Canadiens line up this coming Tuesday when the Habs will face off against the Carolina Hurricanes. Julien did add the caveat that Weber would make his season debut barring any setbacks and after meeting with doctors the day before, but as of right now it looks like Tuesday is the day the Canadiens have circled on the calendar.
