Cody Glass carried off the ice after taking a spinning elbow to the back of the head.

Las Vegas Golden Knights rookie Cody Glass appeared to be in a bad way this evening when he left the ice and hopefully he's going to be ok.

Glass and his Golden Knights welcomed the New York Rangers to town on Sunday night and unfortunately it turned out to be a rather unpleasant evening for the hometown team. The Golden Knights were dominated on the scoreboard with the Rangers picking up a pair of goals in each of the game's first two periods, none of which were answered by the Golden Knights. The big story of the night however will not be the result on the scoreboard, but rather the discussion around the health Cody Class, a rookie this season in the National Hockey League.

Glass was rocked along the boards by what turned out to be a spinning elbow to the back of the head courtesy of New York Rangers forward Brendan Lemieux. The blow to the back of Glass' head appeared to shut down the youngster immediately, causing him to fall to the ice where he would remain for several minutes after the initial contact. Blows to the back of the head are notoriously dangerous and this one appeared to have caught Glass in a pretty bad way given his body language this evening.

Even long after the trainers had come out onto the ice Glass was entirely unable to get up under his own power and had to literally be carried off of the ice by two of his Golden Knights teammates. Glass appeared to be putting very little weight on either leg as he was carried off of the ice and back into the Golden Knights locker room and that is not likely to be a very good sign for Glass. Although no doubt fans in Vegas are furious with Brendan Lemieux, and rightfully so, this incident does not appear to be one that was motivated by malice.

Lemieux came spinning into his hit with Glass and I do not believe that he intended to drive his elbow into the back of Glass' head, although it was unquestionably a reckless play on the part of Lemieux. It will be interesting to see how the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety will handle this one given that they will almost certainly review the play that left Glass in such bad shape.
