Columbus Newspaper Takes Very DISRESPECTFUL Shots at Sidney Crosby

Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby has been front and center so far during his team’s first round playoff series against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Penguins are up two games to none in the series and, with a league-leading 3 points in 2 games, Crosby is once again playing at the top of his game. Maybe it shouldn’t come as a surprise then that Columbus fans, and even the city’s media outlets, are doing everything they can to get the superstar off of his game.

Earlier this week, the Columbus Dispatch newspaper revealed their plans to distribute “Sid the Kid” crying baby masks for fans to wear when the series travels west to Ohio for game 3 and game 4 at Nationwide Arena. The caricature masks generated a lot of chatter amongst both team’s fan bases online, adding further fuel to one of the league’s fiercest rivalries. In the end. However the newspaper decided to ax their idea.

No word on exactly why the Dispatch decided to cancel their plans, but it’s safe to assume that they weren’t expecting such negative feedback when they first planned the light-heated attack on Crosby’s reputation as an on-ice whiner.  One theory: The Columbus Dispatch decided to finally look up “irony” in the dictionary then felt so stupid when they realized the childishness of shaming a superstar hockey player that they decided to backtrack. Just a theory, though…
