The NHL will set a date for each player’s case to be heard by an arbitrator. The player and team can continue to negotiate a new contract while waiting for the case to be heard by the arbitrator, and could settle on a contract at any point up until then.
Only four of last year’s 44 filings actually went to arbitration.
Those that do end up going to arbitration will have hearings later this month or in early August, however most deals should get finalized before the case is heard.
Players can’t receive less than 85 percent of their previous salary.
