Red Wings to lose a player to the KHL?

The Detroit Red Wings may have lost one of their players to the Kontinental Hockey League although at the time of this writing there are conflicting reports on the matter.

First, according to Russian outlet Sport Express Detroit Red Wings forward  Dmytro Timashov is close to signing a new deal with Dinamo Riga, a team based out of Riga, Latvia. Note that Sport Express is not reporting that he has officially signed, but in spite of that there have now been reports refuting the fact that the young winger is in fact looking to leave for Latvia.

According to a report from Mark Falkner of The Detroit News, representatives for the 23 year old Ukrainian forward have reached out and denied the report published by Sport Express over the weekend. It it true that Sport Express has historically been a credible outlet so it is difficult to say who has the story right here, although I will say that information coming from Timashov should probably be considered more credible than the anonymous sources of Sport Express at this time.

Dmytro Timashov was acquired by the Red Wings during the course of the 2019 - 2020 National Hockey League on the waiver wire when he was placed on waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Timashov was selected in the 5th round (125th overal) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft but was never given much of a shot at the NHL level due in large part to how much depth the Maple Leafs currently have on the wing. Timashov appeared in 39 games for the Maple Leafs last season prior to being waived and over that stretch he recorded 4 goals and 5 assists and finished with a plus minus rating of +1 Following his trade to the Detroit Red Wings he would appear in a total of 5 games and record no points, but also finished with a plus minus rating of 0, pretty good given some of the horrific plus minus numbers on the Red Wings roster this season.

It was a small sample size for the Red Wings and given that Timashov is a restricted free agent at the end of the season his future is still in doubt.
