The Edmonton Oilers star forward sounds like he's ready to take on a bigger role, and now many are asking if he should be awarded the "C" as the team's official leader.

Connor McDavid participated in a 1 on 1 exclusive interview with TSN insider Darren Dreger this week, and during that interview he hinted at the fact that he felt he was ready to take on the role as the Oilers captain. McDavid was first asked how he felt expressing his voice in the locker room as such a young player.

“Yeah. You definitely don’t want to overstep your boundaries, but at the same time I think in the locker room everyone has their say and everyone has their opinion and everyone matter," said McDavid as per Nichols on Hockey. "Whether you’re the youngest guy on the team or the oldest guy, (whether) you’re a healthy scratch or whatever, everyone has a place in the locker room. Everyone gets their chance to voice their opinion.”

Dreger then asked McDavid point blank whether or not he felt he was ready for the role of captain.

“That’s an interesting question. I think it’s a better question for my teammates. I mean, I think if you have their respect and they’re behind you and they’re backing you in everything you do, then I think that makes that job very easy.

“But for me, I’m looking to have a good summer, come into training camp, and whether or not that happens, that’s a different story. But I think I want to come to camp and show everyone that I’m not some young 19-year-old anymore, and I’m ready to take a bigger role.”

That sounds like a yes, without actually saying the word.
