In just his first full season in the NHL, Edmonton Oilers phenom Connor McDavid has captured his first Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s leading point producer.

The 20 year old Oilers captain scored point 100 last night against the Vancouver Canucks and was rewarded with resounding chants of “MVP! MVP! MVP!” from the Edmonton crowd. That 100th point put McDavid free and clear of Sidney Crosby and Patrick Kane who each managed 89 points to tie for second place behind McDavid in the regular season points race.

Regardless of whether or not he ultimately claims the title of league MVP by winning the Hart Memorial Trophy at this summer’s NHL Awards, McDavid has been outstanding for the Oilers this entire season. He’s unarguably the NHL’s most dynamic offensive player, equally adept at scoring goals as he is at setting them up. The best part? McDavid is just 20 years-old and should factor into the NHL’s scoring race for the foreseeable future.

There was little doubt of McDavid’s talent when he was chosen first overall by the Oilers in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, but in just two short years he’s gone from promising blue chip prospect to one of the best players in the world. Oilers fans are sure excited to see what McDavid has in store for an encore.
