Contenders willing to pay for Hayes AND Zuccarello in same trade deal!

New York Rangers’ Mats Zuccarello and Kevin Hayes know it’s just a matter of time. It should happen before Monday, 3ET pm.

The two pending free agents, who have been on the trade block for several weeks now, commented to the New York Post about the inevitable trades.

“There’s nothing I can do there,” Hayes simply told the Post.

“I mean, you never know,” Zuccarello said. “I have fun every time I play hockey. I have fun every time I’m in this rink. Whatever happens, happens. There’s nothing I can control. You gotta ask some other people if this was my last game.”

Hayes and Zuccarello played last night in the Rangers’ 4-1 loss at the hands of the Minnesota Wild. They might have been distraught by the ongoing trade chatter, however, they could feel better about TSN’s Hockey insider Darren Dreger’s latest information: it seems like both Rangers forwards could be traded to the same contending team.

“Now that Duchene is off the market teams will dial in on Kevin Hayes. Sources says a few teams have inquired about trading for both Hayes and Zuccarello,” posted Dreger on Twitter.

It would be quite the trade to land both pending UFAs despite their expiring deals. Zuccarello is on an expiring four-year, $18 million contract. Hayes is on a one-year, $5.175 million contract.

It remains to be seen what the exact asking price for either player is, but Hayes is expected to command a higher price that may include a first-round draft pick as part of a package. The New York Post believes Zuccarello could be moved for a draft pick and/or a prospect.

That’s quite the return if you combine both.
Stay tuned…
