Contract extension imminent for Kyle Turris?
KeyStone Press

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reported Friday that Ottawa Senators are making progress in their contract talks with the team’s number one pivot.

Kyle Turris is entering the last year of his contract, a 5-year deal carrying a USD 3.5 million cap hit. With three seasons with over 20 goals under his belt in the last 4 years, in which he surpassed 50 points in all of them, the center is due for a hefty pay raise.

It’s been reported that his agent is seeking a contract in the USD 6 million range, over 7 to 8 years, the max allowable under the current CBA. Such a deal would be comparable to contracts signed recently by the likes of David Pastrnak, Jonny Gaudreau, and Derek Stepan.

General manager Pierre Dorion isn’t rushing to get this done and feels quite confident that he’ll lock in his top center well before July 1st, 2018.

Turris has posted 311 points in 533 career regular season NHL games.
