Controversy brewing in Dallas over Alex Radulov
Zuma Press

This just in according to Dallas Stars insider Sean Shapiro, the team is expected to scratch forward Alex Radulov for tonight’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.

Check it out:

UPDATE: Montgomery has confirmed that Radulov will indeed be a healthy scratch for tonight’s contest.

The 33 year old Radulov has eight goals and 15 points in 29 games for the Stars so far this season and has averaged nearly 20 minutes of ice-time per game at 19:47… second on the team amongst forwards.

That’s… surprising from the outside. But ask any Stars fan their opinion on Radulov and it’s not all that surprising to see why he’s being sat out a game. First of, Montgomery applied this exact same strategy last season when Radulov was struggling and the player ended up coming back with renewed energy and commitment. Maybe Montgomery is simply trying to strike lightning twice? Secondly, Radulov consistent takes some DUMB penalties. He’s good for at least one bad slashing call a game and, quite frankly, it’s a complete buzz kill to a team trying to get on a roll.

After dropping a game to the Jets earlier this week, Montgomery had to make changes to tonight’s lineup. While it may be surprising to some, it’s not exactly a huge surprise to die hard Stars fans that Radulov is the one on the outside looking in.

Still, you just KNOW that the trade chatter will start as a result of this decision from Montgomery. Add in the fact that Radulov has declined to comment and we have the early makings of a classic Coach vs Star Player controversy. Buckle up, Stars fans. This could be a bumpy road.
