This is so sad.

A former National Hockey League enforcer is reportedly surviving on nothing but social assistance and disability checks.

According to a report from the Ottawa Citizen, former NHL forward Chris Simon has gone completely bankrupt, wasting away over $15 million dollars he earned during his tenure as player in the NHL.

Simon didn;t have a short career either, he played in 782 NHL games spending time as a member of the Quebec Nordiques, Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals, Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, Calgary Flames, New York Islanders and Minnesota Wild.

While it's certainly sad that Simon has landed himself in this situation, it becomes more difficult to empathize with him when you discover that he has also defaulted on his child support payments for several years and now owes more than $125,000 in back child support.

Now all of Simon's assets are at risk, and by the sounds of things he is in a position where he will be losing absolutely everything he owns under his name, although that might still not be enough.

From the Ottawa Citizen:

According to the court filing, once all the property and his other assets are sold, Simon would still owe his creditors $182,625.

While this is certainly rock bottom for Simon, we will be holding out hope that he can bounce back, and hopefully fulfill his obligations as a father.
