“An unusual name started circulating in trade circles” — Elliotte Friedman

Elliotte Friedman’s 30 thoughts columns are always full of juicy information. Friedman is an insider and reporter for the network’s national NHL coverage and Hockey Night in Canada.

In his most recent article, he came up with a surprising rumor.

An unusual name started circulating in trade circles the last few days: Minnesota’s Nino Niederreiter. The 24-year-old winger had a career-high 25 goals in 2016–17, and, after making a few calls, it sounds like teams are looking at the Wild’s expansion/cap situation, wondering if he could be available. Two years away from unrestricted free agency, Niederreiter is arbitration eligible and will get a nice raise from the $2.7 million he just earned.” Wrote Friedman.

Nino Niederreiter is a former first round pick (5th overall) of the 2010 NHL entry draft. The 6ft2 left winger played 389 games in the NHL. He scored 85 goals and registered 91 assists for a total of 176 points.

Niederreiter can certainly bring some offensive strike for a team looking to add some depth on their second or third line.
