Could Matt Murray be the secret to victory tonight?

Not even finished his rookie season, Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Matt Murray is on the verge of becoming a two time Stanley Cup champion. Of course, he’ll need to earn two more victories against the Nashville Predators, but one interesting stat from his history may work in his team’s favor for tonight’s game.

Ken Campbell of The Hockey News points out that the 23 year-old Murray is  7-0 in playoff games following a loss and sports a remarkable 1.59 GAA and .935 Sv% in those seven victories. That’s good news for the Pens, as Murray was not great in a 5-1 loss to the Preds on Saturday evening. While it’s not fair for Murray to take the brunt of the blame, he has to be better if the Pens expect to steal a game in Nashville.

When asked what it is about his mental state that allows him to move on so quickly from bad performances, Murray didn’t offer much insight, saying “Just play the game, man. Just play the game.”
