Crazy trade involves four players and 11 draft picks!

Blockbuster trades sometimes take place in the National Hockey League, and we call them ‘blockbuster’ moves because one very popular and key player is usually on the block.  However on Tuesday, a trade took place in the Ontario Hockey League that we can only call crazy. Insane.

A deal went down yesterday in the OHL and it instantly joined the list of massive deals that have taken place over the years. This one is going down in the books: the Kingston Frontenacs traded their leading scorer, Dallas Stars prospect Jason Robertson, and Jacob Paquette for two players, defenceman Billy Constantinou and forward Ian Martin,  and a total of 11 DRAFT PICKS to the Niagara Ice Dogs.

Sarnia’s 2nd in 2019
Windsor’s 7th in 2019
Windsor’s 3rd in 2020
Niagara’s 13th in 2020
Peterborough’s 2nd in 2021
Niagara’s 5th in 2021
Niagara’s 11th in 2021
Niagara’s 2nd in 2022
Kitchener’s 3rd in 2022
Niagara’s 2nd in 2023
London’s 3rd in 2024

Sure in big trades, draft picks can add on as they usually go both ways, but now, this is 11 draft picks going all to one team. That’s insane! And it will be mentioned for years to come since the last pick is scheduled for 2024.

Let’s hope all of these draft picks will make Kingston’s rebuild a whole lot easier for the franchise.

It has been a tough 2018-19 season for the Frontenacs. After reaching the Eastern Conference final last season, they have had a slow start to the season and now hold a 7-16-1 record. Their 15 points puts them last in the Eastern Conference standings and only ahead of the Flint Firebirds in the overall league standings.
