Crosby considers undergoing surgery for aggravated injury!

The Pittsburgh Penguins did not reveal much on their captain Sidney Crosby’s injury ahead of their 3-2 overtime loss to the New York Rangers on Tuesday night.

However on Wednesday morning, breaking news has come out from The Athletic, stating that Crosby is mulling over surgery for a sports hernia that has bothered him all season.

Crosby left a 3-2 shootout win over Chicago on Saturday night in the third period. The superstar got tangled up with Blackhawks defenseman Erik Gustafsson and moments later took a shot from the same blue liner that smacked off his right foot. He then headed to the dressing room in discomfort.

It was reported yesterday by DKPittsburghSports.com that Crosby headed out to Philadelphia on Monday to see a core specialist.

It has been made clear by The Athletic that the star player has aggravated a groin injury he sustained back at training camp. There are now two options for the Pens captain:

“Crosby is now weighing the opinions of medical personnel whether he should undergo surgery, which would typically require a 4-6 week recovery, the sources said.
Another option for Crosby would be a steroid injection and physical therapy, which could possibly allow him to delay surgery until the offseason, the sources said. The potential issue with that option, though, is that Crosby could again aggravate the sports hernia and ultimately need in-season surgery at a later date.”

The Penguins are reportedly hoping Crosby will get surgery sooner rather than later, likely before Christmas.

The amazing thing is that Crosby still managed to carry the Penguins on his back despite his sports hernia.

We will know more in the coming days on what the captain’s decision will be.
