Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby may have natural talent for the game, but he also knows great hockey equipment is needed to succeed.

That’s why, just a few weeks before Christmas, Crosby and CCM Hockey donated 87 sets of equipment to players in need around Nova Scotia.

The Penguins captain and his corporate partner selected three programs in communities where hockey is under-represented and made the announcement in a surprise video presentation.

“I wanted to be sure they had the best experience learning the game,” Cole Harbour’s Crosby said in a news release. “Having the right equipment is the first step to getting started.”

The players receiving the donations are from the Hockey Nova Scotia Black Youth Ice Hockey Program, the Hockey Nova Scotia Indigenous Female Hockey Academy and the Hockey Nova Scotia–ISANS New Canadians Hockey Program.

“We are so grateful to Sidney and to CCM Hockey for this very generous donation and we know it will go a long way in helping these children fall in love with our game,” Hockey Nova Scotia executive director Amy Walsh said in a news release.

What a generous move by the Pens captain!
