This just in, the Pittsburgh Penguins have announced that superstar captain Sidney Crosby will be out at least six weeks after undergoing core muscle (sports hernia) surgery.

Check it out:

Crosby has reportedly been mulling over a decision as to whether or not to have the surgery to help fix a nagging issue, but today's news confirms the reports. More details to come.

Read below for the short press release on today's announcement courtesy of the Penguins' official website:

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby underwent a successful core muscle injury repair today, it was announced by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.
The surgery was performed by Dr. William Meyers of the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia, Pa. The expected recovery time is a minimum of six weeks.
Crosby, 32, leads the team in scoring with 12 assists and 17 points in 17 games for the Penguins this season despite dealing with a sports hernia since training camp.

Suffice it to say, this is a HUGE blow to the Penguins' lineup. The 32 year old superstar has five goals and 17 points in 17 games to start the 2019-20 season. The Penguins (10-6-2) currently sit 4th in the NHL's Metropolitan Division with Crosby leading the team in points. Again... this is a HUGE blow to a team that's hand an inconsistent start to the season. Tough break, Pens fans.
