The city of Pittsburgh was hit with an awful tragedy on Saturday morning when a lunatic entered the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh and began to open fire on the innocent people who were gathered inside the building.

The incident occurred as many where inside for a service being held at the synagogue when a man who has been identified as 46 year old Robert Bowers began to shoot seemingly indiscriminately at those inside. According to officials this would have been the busiest day of the week for the synagogue and given the shooters apparently bigoted motivations for this attack it appears this was done deliberately.

The suspect reportedly entered the building with an assault rigle as well as some other, smaller, firearms and latest reports suggest that he has left 11 people dead and at least 6 more injured at this time. Unfortunately some of those who were injured include the law enforcement officials who responded to the attack and put their own lives on the line in an effort to prevent more senseless violence from taking place inside the building. We know that 4 officers were injured by no specific details have been released regarding officer involved shootings at this time.

Unsurprisingly this heinous crime has rocked the city of Pittsburgh and many are still left reeling as they try and come to terms with the fact that a person could be this disturbed and this filled with hate. The incident game up following the Penguins morning skate and several of their players were asked about the tragedy. As you would expect captain Sidney Crosby again showed tremendous class and vowed to support the victims of this tragedy as he has done so often for those less fortunate in the past.

"We woke up to the terrible news this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the victims and families affected by what happened this morning. Knowing Pittsburgh, I know we'll stick together and rally around them and be there to support and help in any way we can."

Obviously it won't make things better for the families impacted by this tragedy, but it's great to have leaders in the community like Crosby around during terrible moments like this.
