Dan Rosen responds to questions regarding a potential trade involving Jack Eichel.

The Buffalo Sabres have been a disaster for several years now and we have heard from enough of their former players to know that playing there is simply a bad experience for even the most mentally durable of hockey players. The latest player to make comments in that vein was none other than Sabres captain Jack Eichel, who recently expressed what many in Buffalo have said before, he is sick of losing and losing all the time. 

Here was Eichel in his own words:

"I’m fed up with the losing and I’m fed up and I’m frustrated," said Eichel during a conference call in May. "I’m a competitor, I want to win every time I go out onto the ice, I want to win the Stanley Cup every time I start a season."

The comments were a damning indictment of the Buffalo Sabres organization and it was only made that much worse by the fact that another one of the organization's young stars, Rasmus Ristolainen, had similar things to say. This has led many to wonder whether or not Eichel will be made available for trade by the Sabres organization, although that would seemingly only doom them to even more continued failure, and recently one of the National Hockey League's own reporters addressed those question.

NHL.com's Dan Rosen recently answered a number of questions from fans and one of the most asked was regarding Eichel's future in Buffalo. Rosen made it clear that he does not believe the Sabres will trade Eichel in spite of his comments, but also believes that it would be a mistake for the team not to at least look at the possibility moving forward.

"Sabres general manager Jason Botterill should tell them to make an offer if they feel it's worth their time," wrote Rosen. "It also makes zero sense for the Sabres to tell teams, 'Forget about it.' I know they feel Eichel is a huge part of the solution, but it doesn't cost anything to hear what other teams feel he's worth to them."

Unsurprisingly Rosen also believes that it would take something of a king's ransom to pry Eichel away from the Sabres, and no doubt Botterill would be crucified if he walked away with anything less. 

"It would take a lot to get the 23-year-old center, as in high draft picks, top prospects and at least one key NHL player," added Rosen.
