Darnell Nurse calls out the Oilers and it backfires horribly.

On Friday night, the Edmonton Oilers, a team whose city will play host for the entirety of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2020, suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks, one that effectively eliminated them from those playoffs before they truly even began in the eyes of many. It was just the latest in a long series of disappointments for fans of the franchise but the lackluster effort that appeared to come from some of the organization's players on the ice has left a bitter taste in the mouths of many. One need only look at the reaction comments made by Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse received following the Qualifying Round exit from the Oilers for evidence of that.

Following the game many of the team's players were asked to comment on their embarrassing outster from the playoffs but it was the comments of Darnell Nurse, a player that many fans seem to feel underperformed in this series, that truly provoked the harshest reaction from the fan base. Nurse called out his team and by extension his teammates for a poor performance and even went so far as to state that the highest level of compete from his squad came during what was for all intents and purposes a meaningless game.

"The most intensity we had was in our exhibition game against Calgary," said Nurse following the Oilers elimination.

To be perfectly fair to Nurse here I have absolutely no doubt that he was including himself in these comments, but the reaction from fans to that comment were vitriolic to say the least. Whether or not you feel the responses were justified is entirely up to you, but here is a look at just some of the feedback Nurse received from the Oilers fans to those comments.

One fan just straight up called for Nurse to be traded.

That was seemingly echoed as well by fans wishing Nurse farewell in anticipation of him moving on to another team come next season.

Even the fans who were more generous in their interpretation of his comments did not have many kind words to share about the Oilers blue liner.
