The Detroit Red Wings’ defensive units might have caused fans to be in an uproar a few weeks ago, but that all seems to be changing.
As the Red Wings continue to pile on win after win including four in a row, it’s no surprise then that superior goaltending has helped their cause. However, the defensive work has been outstanding, and the team’s whipping boy Jonathan Ericsson who was once upon a time seen as a liability has slowly solidified himself as a fan favorite in recent games.
Playing strongly in his own zone, Ericsson has also stood out for his willingness to drop the gloves and defend his teammates in an NHL era that has seen fighting down by 50% over the course of the last five years alone, according to CBC Sports. Still, that hasn’t stopped the 32-year-old blue-liner from leading the team with two fights, and the warrior also took a puck to the face last week which required 20 stitches to fix.
The funniest part about this all is not so much what Ericsson brings to the table but rather, what his daughter thinks of him ahead of Halloween:
