David Backes will be traded to the Western Conference

The Boston Bruins caught many by surprise earlier this month when they made the decision to place veteran forward David Backes on waivers, presumably for the purpose of sending him down to the American Hockey League, a decision that indicated to many that Backes’ time in Boston was quickly running out.

St. Louis Blues insider Andy Strickland of FOX Sports confirmed the latter, revealing on Friday that Backes is expected to be moved prior to the trade deadline on Monday. He adds that the veteran player is likely to be traded to a Western Conference team.

Could he be coming back to St. Louis? 

While Backes hasn’t played in over a month, he could bring a great leadership to a contender. As we witnessed last spring, he sure has a way of shining during the postseason and could be an asset to a contender with space to take him on. 

It remains to be seen what will happen with Backes as the trade deadline fast approaches, but it seems like we should be ready for a move.
