Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman David Warsofsky had a tough break in Sunday’s 5-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Skating backwards while defending a rush, Warsofsky was flipped over backward by a fallen Tim Peel. The ref lost an edge and slid into the rush when Warsofsky, unsuspecting, went skates over head.

Warsofsky had to be helped off the ice by trainers and teammates. He left the game and did not return.

Following the game coach Mike Sullivan said that Warsofsky was still being evaluated and there was no update on his status. Though, according to Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Sullivan added that Derrick Pouliot was a recall candidate if Warsofsky and Kris Letang were unavailable for Monday’s game against the St. Louis Blues.

Losing Warsofsky would hurt extra right now, after GM Jim Rutherford thinned out their already wanting defensive corps around 3:15am on Saturday. Adam Clendening was shipped out as a part of the trade that also sent David Perron to Anaheim.
