A young defenseman has left a bloody mess on the ice after being busted open on Saturday night.

23-year-old Vancouver Canuck Troy Stecher has had a hard time staying healthy this season and it's hard to blame the player when incidents like this one are what take him out of the game.

Stecher attempted to step in front of a backhand shot from Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner in order to block, and unfortunately he managed to do so but only with his face.

Marner's shot deflected off a stick and drastically changed it's angles resulting in the puck going hard into Stecher's face. Unfortunately for the often injured Canuck he was forced to retreat to the locker room for repairs.
