A National Hockey League veteran is getting another shot in the NHL after sitting on the sidelines all season, but some suspect it may not be with the team that he just signed with.

First according to a report from TSN National Hockey League insider Frank Servalli, the New York Islanders have comes to terms on a deal with veteran defenseman Dennis Seidenberg to finish out the remainder of the 2018 - 2019 NHL regular season. Servalli reports that Siedenberg will earn $700,000 on this deal but what's interesting is that he could very well never make it to the Islanders. The Islanders must now submit Seidenberg to the waivers process and there is one team in particular that may be in serious need of help on the blue line.

Penguins reporter Dave Molinari suggested that picking up Seidenberg, in spite of his obvious decline at 37 years of age, could help the Penguins plug the hole that has been left by the injuries to both Penguins defensemen Kris Letang and Brian Dumoulin. As Molinari correctly points out at his current cap hit the addition of Seidenberg would be an extremely low risk option and should it fail to work out the Penguins could simply place him on waivers yet again and hope someone else takes a stab at him.

How much Seidenberg has left to give remains to be seen although clearly the Islanders, a team that is having a terrific season, see some value in him at this time. He has not played in a single game this season and during the 2017 - 2018 NHL regular season he only appeared in a total of 28 games for the Islanders. During that stretch of player he recording no goals and 5 assists for a ttoal of 5 points, 17 penalty minutes and was a plus minus of -9 on the season. In fact Seidenberg has not played in a full 82 game season back when he was a member of the Boston Bruins during the 2015 - 2015 NHL regular season.

What Seidenberg does bring to the table is 859 games of NHL experience to the blue line, and it will be interesting to see if any teams out there are willing to gamble on him.
