We have a breaking trade to report.

According to a report from Sportsnet's National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman the Florida Panthers have just sent veteran center Derick Brassard. The Panthers of course acquired Brassard as part of a trade with the Ottawa Senators earlier this season, but the indication was all along that they had the intention of flipping him for another asset ahead of the trade deadline for the 2018 - 2019 National Hockey League regular season.

According to Friedman Brassard is on his way to the Colorado Avalanche organization, a team that currently sits 1 point out of a playoff position, and going back the other way to the Florida Panthers is "a third, sounds like," again according to Friedman. We do not know the details of the draft pick at this time but stay tuned we will be bringing you updates as they become available.

Update: According to a report from TSN National Hockey League insider Bob McKenzie it appears that the pick is indeed a third rounder although it will be all the way back in 2020. Additionally it appears that there are some conditions attached to this pick, although the details regarding those conditions has not been made available at this time.

Update: According to a report from TSN National Hockey League insider Pierre LeBrun the Colorado Avalanche are also getting a sixth round draft selection from the Florida Panthers as a part of this deal but we do not know the details of that pick at this time.
