Details of Kane’s casino lawsuit prove that he was gambling during Sharks’ 2019 playoff run

In case you missed yesterday’s bombshell of a story, San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane could be in serious legal trouble after it was reported that a Las Vegas casino is suing him for $500,000 in unpaid gambling debts.

San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane has 500,000 more reasons to dislike Las Vegas.

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas filed a lawsuit Monday in Clark County District Court alleging Kane failed to pay back $500,000 in gambling markers the casino extended to him in April.

The court documents state that Kane, who is a Canadian citizen, took out eight credits of varying amounts between $20,000 and $100,000 on or about April 15. That date would have fallen between Games 3 and 4 of the Stanley Cup first-round playoff series between the Sharks and the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Cosmopolitan also seeks repayment of legal fees associated with the lawsuit. The Cosmopolitan declined to comment on pending litigation, citing company policy.

That’s… that’s a LOT of dough. But, here’s the thing… gambling away large sums of money is nothing new in professional sports. It’s often a case of “easy come, easy go” for these guys, despite how demoralizing that can sound to us working stiffs.

Here’s the really egregious part of Kane’s lawsuit, read below:

He was gambling away hundreds of thousands of dollars between Games 3 and 4 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs?! Oh… and need I remind you that Vegas was up two games to one at that point? Game 4? A 5-0 waxing of the Sharks courtesy of the Golden Knights. Kane was, obviously, pointless in that affair. 

Any way you look at this, it does NOT look good for Kane and the Sharks organization.
