Minnesota Wild forward Nino Niederreiter has a lot to smile about these days. Fresh off signing a brand new five year, $26.25 million contract that will pay him an average annual salary of $5.25 million through 2021-22, the 24-year-old Swiss has a lot to be happy about these days.

Niederreiter’s career high 25 goals and 57 points in 2016-17 put him in line for a big pay day, and as you might expect some stability in Minnesota. But, while it’s unlikely the team looks to move him in the near future, Niederreiter actually opted out of any sort of “no-trade” protection on his latest deal. How can you not love this kid? We wish more players took the route of putting their team before personal preference. Understanding that not every players’ situation and family life is the same, we applaud Niederreiter for have the gumption to bet on himself to get the job done.
