The Detroit Red Wings have faced a great deal of criticism and some nasty rumors since being eliminated in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, and now some of their younger players are speaking out.

Specifically the message from Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Tatar was a very strong one, and one that left no room for doubt when it comes to who both men blame for the Wings disappointing season, themselves.

“I have to do better,” said Nyquist as per Ted Kulfan of The Detroit News. “I didn’t score as much as I wanted to. That’s on me, and I just have to find a way to be better.”

“I want to score goals, obviously that’s what I’m trying to do with other things,” Nyquist said. “I wasn’t able to do that enough this year and that’s disappointing.”

As for Tatar, he puts a great deal of the burden on himself, and also attempted to deflect the criticism being thrown at veterans Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, stating that they didn't do enough to help the two teams veteran leaders.

“We can’t throw everything on Pavel and Hank; those guys need help from us,” Tatar said. “Last season me and Nyke stepped up and helped them. This year was a little bit different, a little tougher for me.”

Both men will obviously be looking to step it up again next season.
