This has to be a record.

Although this is funny to look back on I can't help but feel so bad for veteran Devils' goaltender Cory Schneider who actually had a pretty good game outside of the massive mistakes from his teammates. Schneider was looking for his very first win of the 2018 - 2019 National Hockey League regular season and, shockingly, his very first win in over a calendar year and there's very little question he deserved it. Unfortunately 3 of his teammates conspired against him in a twist of fate that I do not believe I have ever witnessed in the NHL before.

Schneider did an excellent job of stopping the shots he faced, in fact he would have boasted a .940 save percentage on the night against the shots he faced coming from the Devils' players, but what he could not have expected were the shots that were either fired by or assisted by his very own teammates. In total the Devils' would go on to score 3 own goals in a single game, and in spite of that crazy statistic Schneider managed to keep them in the game through regulation.

The first own goal came courtesy of 25 year old winger Stefan Noesen. Nosen's own goal was probably the least egregious of the 3 as it was the result of a centering pass simply bouncing off either the shaft of his stick or his body and finding it's way into the net. In fact Nosen was so caught off guard by the fact that the puck hit him that he lost his balance and fell to the ice trying to adjust to what had just happened.

Up next was 34 year old veteran defenseman Ben Lovejoy. Lovejoy actually tried to make a pretty heads up play by gloving a shot that had come from the blue line, but unfortunately he was unable to get his hand on the puck and instead of catching it in his hand he only served to deflect it just above the glove of Schneider, resulting in the second own goal of the game from the Devils.

Now the conspiracy theorists among you may have realized that both the players I just named are former Ducks and you may be thinking this was some kind of inside job, but the Devils' were not done yet. The ugliest own goal of the night came courtesy of Devils' captain Andy Greene who simply batted a floating puck into the Devils own net, batted it in for the 3 own goal of the night against Schneider.

It's hilarious, I don't think I've ever seen it before, but man do I feel bad for Cory Schneider who simply can not catch a break.
