Disappointing season for Oilers prospect will force the team to make some tough choices.

While this certainly won't be a popular sentiment among fans of Oilers forward Jordan Eberle, there is a growing feeling that Eberle could be on the trading block this summer. 

Complicating matters however has been the up and down season of what is arguably Edmonton's top prospect in Jesse Puljujarvi, a man that many believe could slot into the vacancy left by Eberle should such a trade be made. 

Of course that would require Puljujarvi to find his game, something that he failed to do this season after being demoted to the American Hockey League and failing to crack the NHL roster after that demotion. In fact even with the Oilers in some extremely tough playoff battles there seems to have been very little consideration given to the possibility of bringing up him as an ace up Todd McLellan's sleeve for the postseason. 

Puljujarvi's problems have continued even after the season while representing his native Finland at the IIHF World Championship. Puljujarvi has been held off the score sheet in his five contests thus far and has in fact been made a healthy scratch on two occasions, something that caused him to voice his frustration to the media in Europe.

Of course at just 19 years of age there is plenty of time for him to turn things around, but his current struggles are sure to make the offseason decisions of general manager Peter Chiarelli considerably more difficult if he is unable to properly gauge how much Puljujarvi can be expected to contribute come the 2017-2018 NHL season.
