The Pittsburgh Penguins were handed another hard blow on Tuesday when the team announced that top forward Jake Guentzel underwent successful shoulder surgery after a nasty collision with the boards last night while scoring his 20th goal of the season in the contest against the Ottawa Senators.

He is expected to miss four to six months of action.

Injuries have been piling up in The Burgh and the Penguins have managed to remain on top ever since it started with captain Sidney Crosby sustained a core injury.

There was some good news on Tuesday morning when Crosby took part in practice with the rest of his teammate, sporting a white jersey. After the skate, reporters were quick to ask the captain if he was nearing a return, however fans will have to remain patient.

Crosby explained that he won’t take part in his team’s game on Thursday and that there is still no timeline for his return. He added that he was not taking part in practice, despite skating with teammates, adding that this was the only ice time available for him to skate. He’ll resume skating on his own tomorrow.

Oh the disappointment.

"It's gone well. It just takes time. You just need to heal and you need time to do that. With each week it has gotten better and better, that's the most important thing... With every week I've been able to do more and more, so that's positive."

Fans in Pittsburgh will have to remain patient - not only for the return from their captain but also for a better update on his condition and recovery…
