Disappointing update on injured Penguin Kris Letang.

A little bit of disappointing news for the Penguins today.

Despite the fact that defenseman Kris Letang has made significant progress over the past few days, including participating in full practice, wiothout a no-contact jersey, he will not be available this evening.

According to a report from Sam Werner of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Letang has been ruled out of the Penguins contest against the Islanders, and furthermore the Penguins still aren't prepared to forecast a time frame for his return.

While that sounds bad on the surface, head coach Mike Sullivan spun it as a positive, indicating that he believes Letang is close to a return.

“The fact that he’s skating with us, he’s involved in contact drills is encouraging,” Sullivan said. “He’s getting a whole lot closer.”

We'll likely know more later this week.
