Social media absolutely TORE him a new one. What do you think of what he said?

On Saturday night, The Hockey News writer Ken Campbell published a tweet during the Calgary Flames - Edmonton Oilers match that sparked a veritable social media explosion.

The tweet has since been deleted, but this is what the tweet said:

"Cassie Campbell is a very good, well-informed and intelligent color analyst. But it's unacceptable that @hockeynight has her working Calgary Flames' games. Her husband, Brad, is the Flames' assistant GM."

Twitter absolutely ripped into him, calling him every name under the sun - but the big takeaway was that he was a sexist. The NHL is a league of connections and nepotism, and as Campbell states in his letter below, he has failed to criticize identical situations with his male colleagues.

Campbell (Ken) went on to publish a long explanation of his tweet, admitting to gender bias. He attempts to defend his actions a bit, all the while recognizing the issue with what he said. Here's his statement pulled off of his personal Twitter account.

The social media reaction following the tweet was pretty crazy. Here are a few examples of how people felt when they saw the tweet.

It goes on and on, with very few people supporting Ken following the debacle.

What do you think?
