According to a report from Russian language publication Sport Express, disgraced NHLer Brendan Leipsic is expected to sign a contract with the KHL’s CSKA Moscow.

From Washington Capitals insider Isabelle Khurshudyan:

The translated report from Sport Express:

CSKA is close to an agreement to sign a contract with former Washington forward Brandon Leipsik . The contract will be signed for two years. This was reported by the agent of the striker Sergei Isakov. Leipsic left the Caps because of a scandal over his merged private correspondence from the Internet in which he criticized other hockey players and their wives.

Leipsic, who played for five NHL teams over four seasons (Capitals, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks, Vegas Golden Knights, Toronto Maple Leafs), put himself at the centre of a broiling controversy after some of his group text messages were leaked online via a friend’s Instagram story.

Leipsic and some of his friends make some awful statements about women and single out former Canucks teammate Tanner Pearson’s wife calling her fat and “actually disgusting.” He also went off on Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid and his girlfriend Lauren Kyle.

Leipsic quickly deleted his Instagram account before releasing a tepid apology on Twitter the next day.

Here’s his apology from May:

“I fully recognize how inappropriate and offensive these comments are and sincerely apologize to everyone for my actions. I am committed to learning from this and becoming a better person by taking time to determine how to move forward in an accountable, meaningful way. I am truly sorry.”

The Capitals cut ties with the pending free agent immediately and with news that he has signed in the KHL, it’s unlikely that we’ll ever see Leipsic in the NHL again.

So long, buddy. I hear winters in Siberia can be quite lovely…
