The Toronto Maple Leafs lost 23 year old rookie forward Dmytro Timashov just prior to the deadline after general manager Kyle Dubas made the decision to place the young man on the waiver wire. Although the Maple Leafs likely expected Timashov to go unclaimed that close to the deadline, a time of year when teams are looking to make room on their rosters to facilitate potential trades, he was in fact claimed by the Detroit Red Wings, a struggling team that no doubt felt it was a gamble worth taking.

Dmytro Timashov has since joined the Red Wings and has even played his first game with the organization and you would think that it would mark the end of his story with the Leafs, but to his credit Dmytro Timashov was not so quick to forget his former team. On Saturday the Ukrainian took to social media and shared some rather kind words for his former team as well as some positive words for his current team in spite of the fact that they are by far the worst team in the National Hockey League this season.

"Thank you, for drafting me, letting me develop and for making my dream to play in the nhl come true," wrote Timashov via his twitter account. "It was an honor to play for the leafs. Also so excited to play in red and white. I’m beyond excited and I can’t wait to see what the future holds."

Although you might think that he is perhaps being a little too generous regarding his excitement to play for the Red Wings I think it is safe to say that Timashov is in fact being genuine here. The young forward was extremely limited in his role with the Toronto Maple Leafs and it has since been revealed that Timashov had actually approached the Leafs, either himself or through his representation, prior to the deadline in order to request a trade out of Toronto. Considering the strong group of forwards that the Leafs currently boast there was not a lot of opportunity for Timashov to secure an increased role with the team, something that will not be the case for him as a member of the Red Wings.
