Dominik Kahun is headed to the Oilers.

It appears as though the Edmonton Oilers have acquired a brand new center.

A breaking news report from German hockey outlet Eishockey News is claiming that 25 year old centerman Dominik Kahun has agreed to terms on a 1 year deal with the Edmonton Oilers, although at this time no financials regarding this deal have been reported. The report claims that the news comes directly from Jiri Poner, Kahun's agent, so there is really little doubt about the authenticity of this report. 

Kahun signs with the Edmonton Oilers as an unrestricted free agent after the Buffalo Sabres elected not to give him a qualifying offer this offseason. I can hardly blame the Sabres given that Kahun only played a total of 6 games for their organization prior to the season being shut down, having previously played all his games with the Pittsburgh Penguins team that traded him to Buffalo. In total Kahun finished the season with 56 games played and over that span he had 12 goals and 19 assists for a combined 31 points. 

Aside from the fact that Kahun is without a doubt a serviceable NHL center, there's also an added benefit for the Oilers to bring him in. Kahun has previously played on the national team with Oilers star forward Leon Draisaitl, not it will give one of the organizations top players a fellow countrymen to play alongside of and will no doubt make it easier for Kahun to acclimate himself to the Oilers and the city of Edmonton. Kahun's agent seemed pleased at the notion of reuniting the two players.

"I'm delighted that the two friends can play together in Edmonton," said Poner as per Eishockey News. “Edmonton had the most interest besides Buffalo. The Sabers have decided on a different path. "

Kahun was never drafted into the NHL, instead he showcased his skills in Germany's Deutsche Eishockey Liga( DEL) and eventually earned himself a contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. He played his first full season with that organization recording 13 goals and 24 assists for a combined 36 points, before eventually being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the trade that brought Olli Maatta to Chicago.
